At the 25 February 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting, Norfolk Island Regional Council (Council) endorsed the appointment of Mr. Gregg Prechelt as a member of the Strategic Finance Improvement Committee (‘SFIC’, ‘Committee’) for a term to run concurrently with the period of Council administration.
Mr. Prechelt joins Mr. Alistair Innes-Walker as the two committee members from the community.
The SFIC Terms of Reference (TOR) establishes that one of the primary functions of the Committee is to prepare a Strategic Finance Improvement Plan (Plan) "with an emphasis on the urgency to address the financial issues facing Council". This Plan will help develop and inform the Committee's work plan.
Background
The Strategic Finance Improvement Committee was established pursuant to Council Resolution 2025/212, adopted at the 10 December 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting. In accordance with the Committee's TOR, it is comprised of Council’s Lead Administrator, Financial Administrator, Acting General Manager and up to five (5) Committee Members from the community, of which there are currently some vacancies.

The SFIC conduct monthly meetings, with the first committee meeting held on Thursday 29 January 2026 and the second on 24 February 2026.
