Following recent reports of bitumen residue adhering to vehicle tyres associated with road sealing works, Norfolk Island Regional Council (Council) sincerely apologises to affected community members.
As soon as Council became aware of the issue, immediate action was taken to investigate and rectify the affected road surface.
The road surface has now been stabilised, and Council’s Roads team will continue to monitor the treated sections to ensure the seal remains in good condition.
Council is offering a free tyre cleaning service for a two (2) week period commencing Friday 17 July 2026 for community members whose vehicle tyres have been affected by bitumen residue from the road sealing works.
Affected residents are encouraged to contact Council’s Customer Care team, who will assist in arranging this service.
Tyre cleaning will be undertaken at the roads compound next to the Waste Management Centre during operating hours from 7:00am to 2:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Council sincerely regrets this unforeseen incident and is reviewing its road sealing practices to help prevent a similar occurrence in the future.
