Upcoming Critical Roadworks - Taylors Road
Published on 05 December 2025
STAGE 1 – INITIAL WORKS
The Roads team have commenced critical roadworks on Taylors Road where the road surface has deteriorated in front of the Council office and the Liquor Bond, followed by works in front of Foodland Mall’s three driveways. These works are essential to ensure the longevity of the road and helps maintain safe passage along this vital community link. Nightworks have been key to minimising disruption to the community for this stage.
STAGE 2 – ROAD RESURFACING
Following Stage 1, both sides of Taylors Road will be resurfaced in up to three sections by 18 December 2025. The aim is to extend the life of the road surface by approximately five years or more.
- Roadworks will occur over 3 to 5 days by 18 December, with much of the work weather dependent.
- Roadworks are intended to be early mornings or evenings to minimise disruption, however exact dates and times will be confirmed closer to commencement, with community updates provided at least a day in advance.
Why are roadworks being undertaken in December?
Taylors Road is a major traffic artery and hub for the island’s community, which means it is a high priority for road maintenance.
Roadworks could not be undertaken during the wetter months, as frequent heavy rainfall would have washed out attempts at any improvements.
Current favourable weather conditions provide the best opportunity now to rectify the road levels at these driveways and resurface the sections between New Cascade Road and Rawson Hall.
Two additional short sections of Taylors Road between New Cascade Road and Queen Elizabeth Avenue will also be resurfaced after these works are completed.
If these works are not completed now, a labour intensive and full reconstruction of much of Taylors Road would be required, causing significant disruption to island traffic for many months.
By completing the works now, we aim to provide the community with uninterrupted access over the Christmas and New Year period.
Council thanks the community for its patience and cooperation during these essential works and will continue to take all possible measures to keep disruptions to a minimum.
